Key Responsibilities

Role Purpose: 
Maintain and promote a safe and healthy work environment for all associates.  Ensure compliance to legal and established system requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive change through others, maintain and promote a safety conscious culture.
  • Manage accident / incident cases as well as corrective / preventive action and reporting.
  • Manage and maintain Accident Rate Statistics and report results to the management team.
  • Maintain ISO 45001 compliance and implement improvements within the facility.
  • Identify and anticipate environmental, health, safety concerns / hazards and implement solutions using EQMS required tools.
  • Conduct internal safety/ environmental audits and inspections to monitor EQMS system effectiveness.
  • Maintain HSE information systems on the intranet and network.
  • Complete and submit reports to both Corporate and legal entities as required as well as conduct required legal reviews.
  • Lead the site HSE committee and respective additional committees: Evacuation, Recycling, etc.
  • Review and dispose of all materials / chemicals submitted for use within the facility according to internal procedures and legal requirements.
  • Conduct HSE related training of associates and management to ensure compliance with legal, system and customer requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate records as required by legal and company directives.
  • Maintain communications with company insurance providers to manage cost of programs.
  • Maintain communications with medical providers as necessary to assist with cost containment under workers compensation program, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Coordinate medical treatment of workers compensation injuries through approved providers.
  • Prepare annual HSE Department budget preparation.
  • Provide guidance to Management regarding HSE related issues, while acting as the subject matter expert in such areas.
  • Conduct Internal HSE/ISO 45001 audits at other GKN sites.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Industrial/ Occupational Safety & Health or Environmental Engineering)
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in one or more HSE or related field(s).

  • Professional certification in safety (CSP) or industrial hygiene (CIH) a plus.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5yrs of EHS related experience preferably in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to leverage business understanding to the EHS strategies for the organization (responsibility shared with Matrix Manager).
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Important to excellent listening, consultative and negotiation skills.
  • Ability in development policies proposals and procedures implementation, and interpretation and application of policies and standards.
  • Must understand and be able to apply principles, theories and practices of environmental, health, and safety legal regulations (e.g.OSHAS…).
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and demonstrated abilities in leadership, communication and planning.
