The Buyer will procure material/services and manage suppliers in accordance with the defined strategies, by optimizing the total cost and ensuring compliance of the purchased items. This role will be primarily based out of the Muncie, IN facility.  

 

Who you’ll work with 

The Buyer reports directly to the Muncie Plant Manager with a dotted line to the US East Supply Chain Director. They will work regularly with the supply chain/procurement group and cross-functional teams, as well as work externally with suppliers and customers.

 

What you’ll do

  • Manage all aspects of the supplier relationships, including delivery and quality performance, cost and inventory management, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage purchase order execution and product delivery, including timely placement of schedule agreements, billing adjustments / terminations mitigation and cost reduction execution.
  • Tracks, provides material status and expedites actual and forecast shortage materials as required to achieve timely receipt of materials. Validates supplier commitments.
  • Issues RFQs, analyzes proposals, and negotiates to achieve optimum cost.
  • Interfaces with the Global Commodity Team to contribute to and drive the implementation of global strategies and action plans.
  • Negotiate long-term agreements with suppliers for materials, components, equipment and services at the lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability of source and urgency requirements.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the global and local KPI’s by identifying and driving cost reduction and delivery improvement activities  Has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of supply chain and the discipline required for a purchasing role.
  • Coordinate with New Program Integration (NPI) to support product development and product modifications in the portfolio. 
  • Work in accordance with the GKN processes, the GKN Way, and the GKN values and behaviors.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

About you

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years relevant work experience as Buyer and/or in supply chain/procurement in a manufacturing environment.
  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of sourcing and purchasing processes
  • Experience in forging or aerospace manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, particularly SAP and/or LN preferred.
  • Proven ability to network effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Self-starter; excellent people skills
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficiency in general computer skills (Windows & MS Office).
  • Strong communication, project and time management skills.
  • GKN experience preferred.
