About The Opportunity

The role can be located in one of GKN’s European businesses, exact location TBD .

An exciting opportunity has arisen within GKN's Aerospace Division. We are currently seeking an experienced Business Development Director who has extensive experience of working within the commercial aerospace sector, specifically dealing with large aircraft construction companies.

The successful candidate will be expected to identify, lead and capture business development opportunities for a large customer in line with the strategic and operational objectives of GKN in order to realise or contribute to the profitability, invested capital, cash conversion and growth of GKN Aerospace.

The role report to the Vice President Business Development ASEA. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Provides proactive internal and customer-focused capture strategies to align multiple divisions in the pursuit of new opportunities. Encompasses pricing, competition, analysis and taking responsibility for the action item over an extended capture phase to position GKN for wins.
  • Serves as the liaison and facilitator at all levels of the assigned customer(s) and internal stakeholders, to resolve issues and assure customer satisfaction. Provides the customer and internal stakeholders with liaison support within and across the division on existing and new business. Stays in close contact with the customer and internal stakeholders and the end users to ensure expeditious problem resolution to meet customer and stakeholder expectations.
  • Collaborates with the Heads of Product Group and Program Directors to provide direction to GKN Aerospace ASEA executive management regarding future business and engineering trends by maintaining current aerospace industry and customer knowledge. Provides forecast recommendations where future business and engineering priorities should be focused.
  • Develops and maintains extensive industry contacts (suppliers, customers, competitors) at marketing and operations management levels in target market for the retention and capture of new business. Takes appropriate steps to protect and safeguard GKN intellectual property.
  • In conjunction with the Heads of Product Group and Program Directors, identifies business development opportunities by studying competitor products, technical problems, market intelligence, and identifying trends. Pursues teaming and partnering alliances with other companies. Maintains a working knowledge of key variables affecting the marketplace and key aerospace customers.
  • Acts as primary consultant to management on significant customer issues. Understands how to get issues resolved at an appropriate working level, highlights inter-divisional items of commercial significance, and communicates effectively with site leadership and executive management.

Your skills and competences

  • As a successful candidate, you have at least 10-15 year experience in relevant aerospace roles and a proven record of accomplishment in business.
  • The success of the role is dependent on managing the right level of cooperation between key / senior management in the customer and our own organization.
  • The successful candidate is very talented in building and maintaining effective and constructive working relationships, partnerships, and networks of contacts across the industry. This will including, but not be limited to, maintaining current working relationships, creating new working relationships, networking to address future issues and/or opportunities, and strategically expanding the network.
  • To succeed in this role, the successful candidate will have experience in challenging program-orientated environments with major programs.
  • Other important characteristics are the ability to establish, maintain and influence effective working relationships with internal and external customers, effectively handle complex situations and to perform effective analyses in order to reach appropriate solutions.
