This position is an individual contributor.  This position reports to the Director of ES&H, Maintenance and Facilities.

What you’ll do

Design and develop safety processes and programs in support of GKN Aerospace Services and in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.  Support manufacturing, Maintenance and Facility operations with essential safety functions and participate in establishing business strategies.

  • Become familiar with and expand on GKN business environment and values.
  • Provide support to the Metals, Maintenance/Facilities and Composites Safety Committees.
  • Support GKN-STL culture shift toward full integration of ES& H  into business unit ownership.
  • Inspect and audit equipment, environment, and employee operations to ensure OSHA Compliance, GKN Safety standards and best practice improvements.
  • Assess current GKN ES& H programs and practices and develop compliance solutions and best practices for high priority deficiencies.
  • Evaluate employee and environmental exposures to hazardous and physical agents by using technical knowledge and monitoring equipment.
  • Maintain technical and regulatory knowledge base in industrial safety.
  • Conduct pre-design safety reviews of equipment/facility/new processes to optimize work environment conditions.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 log and facilitate accurate records of injuries and incidents.
  • Respond to ES& H  emergency situations and develop/improve hazardous materials response capabilities.
  • Provide advice and consultation for Production, Maintenance and Facilities on safety issues.
  • Develop and provide key training programs for GKN employees.
  • Key contact for regulatory inspection, insurance visits, and external audits.
  • Expand expertise to provide assistance for environmental programs and issues.
  • Revise/maintain policies and procedures to support processes for regulatory requirements including GKN Safety standards.
  • Conduct and lead serious incident/accident investigations, provide investigation training for plant supervision and safety committee teams. 
  • 2 years of Safety Engineering in a manufacturing environment required.
  • BS in Safety Engineering or related discipline. 
  • Proven ability to interact with a variety of professions and disciplines in a facilitation role
  • Good oral and written presentation skills with demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Strong computer skills needed
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR/First Responder qualifications desired
  • Professional certifications such as CSP or CIH strongly preferred or proof of attempting to obtain certification(s)

About you

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Safety Engineering or related discipline
  • Must be a US Citizen per ITAR regulations and site SSA requirements
