About The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineering & Quality Manager to join GKN Aerospace, at our Filton facility, Bristol.
The successful candidate, responsible for the management of Manufacturing Engineering and Quality activities within the local business. Accountable to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering, Head of Quality and the Head of Business. Functional reports to the role include Engineering Group Leaders (EGL) and their teams, direct reports include Assurance Group Leaders, Product Assurance Engineers and Tool Design and Planning Engineers.

The primary Product Assurance responsibility is to provide the Head of Product Assurance and Business Head with an independent Assurance that the Products / Services provided by the Business comply with all applicable Quality and regulatory requirements and conform to applicable Design data.


Key Responsibilities
  • All Manufacturing Engineering activities within the local Business
  • All Quality Assurance activities within the local Business
  • Assures that the Quality system is adequate and is being applied and adhered to within the business, through the provision of independently gathered evidence by the business.
  •  Assures that the certification processes within the business are adequately defined, accurate, credible, robust and consistently applied.
  •  Assures independently that a given component quality plan exists, is fit for purpose, and takes into account potential non-conformance probability and severity factors.
  • To manage the deployment and effectiveness of all Product Assurance and Manufacturing Engineering personnel.
  • Contact point for partners / customer representatives, facilitating / managing customer inspection.
  • Ensuring that competent Manufacturing Engineers accurately convert the design intent in to clear manufacturing instructions.
  • Accuracy of the Manufacturing Engineering and Quality data set.
  • Ensuring engineering integrity of bills of material and configuration control.
  • Acting as a focal point for Manufacturing Engineering and Quality issues relating to the manufacture of product.
  •  Development and enhancement of the manufacturing process.
  • Developing and deploying performance and process metrics which are consistent across the current production groups.
  •  Resource management and competency development.
  • Succession planning to meet current and emerging business needs.
  • Management of the delegated budget.
  • Ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory, legal, and quality requirements.
  • Establishing and managing Points Of Embodiment for modification proposals in conjunction with the core change management team
  •  Management of Aircraft Matrixes.
  • The production of manufacturing NC programmes.
  • Management of Manufacturing Engineering data integrity audits, checks and cleansing



  • Must be educated to Degree level or equivalent with previous experience in an  aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Act as a Key Communicator to direct reports, cascade information effectively, and provide appropriate feedback on a regular basis
  •  Actively resolve issues raised using standard model of GKN leadership behaviour: setting expectations, recognition, coaching, constructive feedback, and escalation where appropriate
  • Continuously coach and develop team members to ensure that team targets are achieved: enhancing a people - focused environment
  • Maintain an appropriate level of skills and flexibility within the functional team: identify functional training needs
  • Ensure that all direct reports have equal opportunity to contribute to improvement
  • Provide Employee Involvement and team management and direction through weekly 5 Box tool briefing for direct reports
