About The Opportunity

Research Center, Trollhättan, consists of three departments Engineering Methods, Design Engineering and Process Engineering.  The Engineering Methods department is responsible for design and analysis methods that shape our future aero engine modules. We work mainly in technology projects where we apply methods to design new products and develop new Engineering Methods within the fields of Aero- and Thermodynamics, Solid Mechanics and Process Simulation. Today we are 20 employees of which a significant number have a PhD degree. We are looking for an aerodynamic engineer to expand our Engineering Methods department.

The mission of our function is to assure that GKN can provide competitive low weight products with state of the art mechanical properties and aerodynamic functionality, where performance and noise are key issues. Also, we support process development with advanced simulation capabilities. The broad spectrum of our product offer demands state of the art research and development as well as specialist competence in the disciplines aerothermodynamics, aeroacoustics, process simulation and solid mechanics. This is realized with our strategy to take part and lead international research programs and by building a strong competence network with national and international research institutes and universities. We work actively together with the core engineering departments within GKN to bring new technology in to product development programs.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for an Engineer with a strong competence profile in aerodynamics in general and in numerical tools development in particular that can complement our competence base to design future engine components. As a team member you will be engage in CFD analysis, demonstrator and test rig design, test planning, data processing, programming, optimization etc.


Required knowledge/experience

·         Engineer with a M.Sc. in Fluid Mechanics, or equivalent.

·         Strong basic knowledge of data structures, algorithms and debugging.

·         Programming skills in at least one object-oriented language (e.g. Python, C/C++).

·         Experience with statistical analysis and/or optimization is considered favorable.

·         Development experience with ParaView is a merit.

·         Experience in scripting for commercial software (e.g. ANSYS) is a merit.

·         Knowledge of HPC, Linux O/S, MPI, job queueing systems are beneficial.

·         You have a good understanding of the customers’ needs and a good ability to communicate with those as well as with our research partners.

·         You have a strong drive to develop, validate, present and implement new methods, tools and the theories on which they are based.

·         You are proficient in English, which the GKN Group language.

·         Knowledge of Swedish is considered favorable.
