About The Opportunity

Promote and advance the Core Values of the GKN Safety and Environmental Programs.  Ensure compliance to legal and established system requirements.  Lead and coordinate HSE initiatives and provide support to facility leadership in the implementation of initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Advance the Safety Program to World Class Level by:
  • Develop incident prevention programs and initiatives that incorporate techniques that engage, support, and promote the safety and wellbeing of employees.

  •  Supporting and promoting a safety conscious culture throughout GKN Driveline Newton facilities,

  • Developing safety  programs that meet and exceed  GKN Driveline and GKN PLC initiatives,

  • Developing and promoting advanced incident root causation analysis techniques,

  • Providing technical support to Operational initiatives to ensure the highest degree of worker safety,


    Advance the Environmental Program to World Class level by supporting and assisting in:

  • Developing the recycling program to maximize “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” efforts,

  • Developing an Energy Conservation Program to reduce energy consumption to meet GKN standards,

  • Developing a program to drive facility to a 0% landfill state,


  • Support investigation of accident / incident cases as well as corrective / preventive action and reporting.

  • Maintain and analyze Accident Rate Statistics and report results to the management team with continuous improvement suggestions.

  • Support ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 compliance and implement improvements within the GKN Newton facilities.

  • Identify and anticipate environmental, health, safety concerns / hazards and implement solutions using EQMS required tools.

  • Conduct internal safety/ environmental audits and inspections to monitor EQMS system effectiveness.

  • Maintain EHS information systems on the GKN Newton intranet and network.

  • Complete and submit reports to legal entities as required by law as well as conducting required legal reviews.

  • Develop and Host the plant EHS committee.

  • Review all materials / chemicals submitted for use within the facility according to internal procedures and legal requirements.

  • Conduct EHS related training of associates and management to ensure compliance with legal, system and customer requirements.

  • Maintain appropriate records as required by legal and company directives.

Bachelor Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health, Safety, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.

Minimum of 7 years working experience in one or more EHS or related field(s).

Must have in-depth knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety functional areas; demonstrated competencies in EHS policies development; knowledge and skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating effective EHS programs, policies, and services to support the organization's objectives

Demonstrated skills in providing creative leadership; analytical and conceptual skills/abilities to identify, analyze and resolve problems creatively and strategically.

Demonstrated EHS operational excellence, including leading/participating in major change initiatives, and in-depth knowledge of federal, state employment laws, Lean and Quality standards and OSHA compliance.

Solid foundational knowledge of EHS practices within a larger organization and prior experience in manufacturing, and construction.

Solid experience, knowledge and ability to work with external auditors, and consultants on all EHS aspects.

Effective team player and partner, and demonstration of an immediate sense of urgency, as well as flexibility.
