About The Opportunity

Design Engineering is a department within Research CentreTrollhättan. The Research Centre in Trollhättan is a part of the GlobalResearch and Technology organisation at GKN Aerospace and currently we are 75employees. Primarily the employees at the department work with concept designand definition of new technology in aero engine modules. We work together withthe two other Research departments Engineering Methods and Process Engineering.We have continuous cooperation with the core engineering organisationresponsible for product development programmes. We organize work in technology projects where we develop new productconcepts and implement new design tools. Today we are 21 employees and growing.


The department ofDesign Engineering now has several positions for a Design Engineer with emphasison design for automation and automation of design and analysis of aero engine structures.You are an Engineer with a strong competence profile in product design ingeneral and interest in automation processes in particular that cancomplement our competence base to design future engine components.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking foran Engineer with a strong competence in product design in general and skillsand interest in automation of design process and design for automation inparticular that can complement our competence base to design future enginecomponents.



·       You will primarily work with design and developmentof product technology for cold & hot aero engine structures in metallicmaterial but also composites.

·       You are expected to take an active role in designfor automation and work with CAD and CAM  in our new product demonstrator programs

·      As Design Engineer you will be contributing to the product definition thatintegrates aspects of product cost, producability & technical requirementsto a well-balanced product. The work involves implementation and development  in NX CAD and CAM System, Team Centre as well as python scripting.

Ingeneral our work is done in internal technology development projects,technology demonstrators and in research collaborations often done in bilateralor multilateral collaboration with our partners in the EU as well as in theUSA. The operational model for Research Center Trollhättan is based on monthlyteam sprints where sprint objectives are adjusted based on continuous learningin the program and teams.  Perform activities within design teams to optimizeproducts and methods to defined program targets.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills


  • You are an engineer with an MSc degree in Product Design, Solid Mechanics or similar. Industrial experience of Engine Component Design is a merit.
  • You have an interest to develop within the field of design and analysis  of metallic/composite structures
  • You have experience and is interested to develop within the field automation of design. Skills in scripting in NX and Knowledge Fusion is a merit.
  • Knowledge of CAM tools, particularly NX for manufacturing is a merit. Interest is a must.
  • You have a good understanding of the customers’ needs and a good ability to communicate with those as well as with our research partners 
  • You have a strong drive to explore  and implement new processes and engineering methods and tools  in our products
  • You have good social skills, the ability to create effective networks and can take on a technical responsibility role
  • You are proficient in English, which the GKN Group language
